Spice monkey
South Asia-themed lounges in Manhattan
(via New York magazine) A couple of interesting new South Asia-inspired places just launched in Manhattan:
Monkey Temple: SoHo lounge; "flat-screen TVs silently airing Indian films... nan pizza, samosas, and curry-chicken ciabatta."
558 Broome St. between Varick St./6th Ave. Spice Market: High-end West Village restaurant; South and SE Asian street food by the star chef behind Vong; "satays and summer rolls, dosa and pho... with coriander chutney and kumquats." They even have costumes.
403 W. 13th St./9th Ave.
Update:
K Lounge: Upstairs from Bombay Palace. Udaipur and Khajuraho themes with black and white classic Bollyflicks playing in the background. Exoticism through the roof: "Tantric Tika, Sensual Samosas."
30 W. 52nd St. between 1st/2nd Aves.
