Cyprus hill
Speedy Cyprus resolution points way for Kashmir
Border disputes can be resolved with blinding speed when shekels are at stake. The tantalizing promise of trade with the EU has solved a 40-year-old border dispute in Cyprus which was first ignited by, what else, independence from the British. The prize is so rich and the executors in such a hurry, that Cyprus has been given only 60 days to complete all necessary referendums. The island is under the gun to meet a May 1, 2004 deadline for resolving the deadlock between the Greeks and the Turks and joining the EU.
Gordon Gekko is apparently both a patriot and a Cypriot; the Line of Control on this Cyprus hill will soon be erased. To be blunt, might not trade put its shoulder to the Sisyphean boulder of the Kashmir conflict?
